Is CoolSculpting painful?

Patients respond differently to the treatment, but commonly report a tugging sensation, tingling, burning, and of course freezing sensations during the treatment. When the skin has cooled, patients typically feel nothing since the area is numb from the temperature. Some patients feel similar uncomfortable sensations after the applicator is removed, and during the post-procedure massage. When the procedure is over, there is likely to be redness and possibly bruising. Most patients remain fairly comfortable during the entire process, and even relax during the procedure. Most patients are able to manage any associated pain simply with over the counter pain relievers.

What areas of the body can CoolSculpting be done on?

CoolSculpting can be done on the lower abdomen, upper abdomen, flanks (love handles), bra fat, back fat, chin (double chin), arms, legs, above the knees, and under the buttocks.

How does CoolSculpting work?

CoolScultping works by having a CoolSculpting specialist apply applicators to body areas with unwanted fat, and then using the device to freeze the fat cells away. The process, called cyrolipolisis, freezes about 20% of the fat cells, killing them permanently. The body naturally excretes these fat cells over the next several weeks.

Does CoolSculpting work on everyone?

Not everyone is a candidate for CoolSculpting. First, the fat must be pinchable, and above the muscle. Hardened fat underneath the muscle wall cannot be treated by CoolScultping. CoolSculpting is also not recommended to treat obese patients, as it only targets specific areas of fat. There are also a few pre-existing conditions that may also disqualify a patient. Before any CoolSculpting procedure, you should have a consultation with a CoolSculpting specialist to learn if you are a good candidate, and to understand the anticipated results. Most patients require more than one treatment on the same area to reach their desired results.

Is CoolSculpting permanent?

The fat cells that are shed during the process are gone forever. However, the remaining fat cells can still grow or shrink depending on factors such as diet and exercise.
